How many ads should you run on Meta: 75 creatives live in the median account, $1,100 weekly spend per live creative, 17 creatives carried most of the spend

Data: June–September 2026 · 17 US ad accounts · $7.7M in Meta spend over the last 30 days

Part of our Meta Ads Statistics 2026 report.

The Short Answer

In 17 Meta ad accounts spending $100K to $1.8M a month:

  • The median account had 75 creatives running at the same time. That's the total number of creatives getting spend in a given week, not the number of new ones launched. Over a full month, 90 different creatives got spend. The middle half of accounts had between about 35 and 130 running.
  • That works out to about $1,100 in weekly spend per live creative (middle half: $550 to $2,000).
  • But only about 17 creatives really carried the account. Over three months, the median account had 17 creatives that each took at least 1% of spend. That number barely changed with account size: 7 to 25 in every account.
  • About 1 in 4 creatives that spent during the month had stopped spending by its final week. The live set turns over constantly.

A simple starting point: plan for roughly one live creative in your account for every $1,000 you spend per week, and expect 15 to 25 of them to do most of the work.

"Live" doesn't mean new. Every number in this post about live creatives is the total running in the account, including older winners, variations and tests. It is not the number of new creatives launched each week or month. We cover how many new ones you need below.

The Data

We pulled Meta data from 17 US ad accounts we have visibility into, each spending $100K or more from June through August 2026. Together they spent $7.7M in the last 30 days (August 28 – September 26).

  • "Creative" means a unique image or video. If the same video runs in five ad sets, it counts once. This is closer to what you actually have to produce than a count of ads.
  • "Live" means the creative got any spend in the window: the last 7 days for weekly counts and the last 30 days for monthly counts. It counts everything running, old and new. A creative that launched in March and is still spending counts the same as one that launched yesterday.
  • "Carried the account" means a creative took at least 1% of the account's total spend from June through August.

The accounts include consumer brands (food, supplements, pet, beauty and household) and apps and services (software, streaming, telecom, fintech and health). Brand names are anonymized.

  • Bigger budgets run more creatives, but not in a straight line. Spend and creative count were moderately related. Some $100K–$250K accounts ran more live creatives than accounts spending four times as much.
  • The range is wide. The leanest accounts ran about 22 creatives a week. The largest consumer brand in the data ran 749, including a long tail of creator and whitelisted ads that each got a small amount of spend.
  • Running few creatives is possible, but it's concentrated. Four accounts ran fewer than 30 creatives a week. One health brand spent about $195K a week across just 24. In accounts like that, a single fatigued ad can move the whole account.

Most Live Creatives Don't Get Much Spend

Having 75 creatives live doesn't mean 75 creatives are doing the work.

  • Across three months, the median account had just 17 creatives that each took 1% or more of spend, and only 8 that took 2% or more.
  • That number was remarkably stable. Every account landed between 7 and 25, whether it spent $100K or $1.7M a month.
  • The rest are tests and long tail. Most live creatives are new concepts getting a first look, variations of winners, or older ads still picking up small amounts of spend.

This matches what we found in our creative fatigue data: in the median account, just 16 ads made up half of three months of spend. Meta finds a handful of winners and pushes budget to them. The other creatives are how it finds the next ones.

The Live Set Turns Over Constantly

  • In the median account, 23% of the creatives that spent during the month had stopped spending by its last week. They were paused, replaced or simply stopped getting delivery.
  • Winners turn over too. In our fatigue data, two of every three top-10 creatives were new within a quarter.

So there are really two numbers to plan for: how many creatives you have live in total, and how many new ones you launch to keep that total healthy. If a quarter of the live set drops off each month, an account with 75 live creatives needs to replace roughly 15–20 a month just to stay level, and more if it's growing or still hunting for winners.

How Many Ads Should You Run?

Based on this data, here's a practical way to size your creative volume:

  1. Size your total live creative count from your weekly spend. Plan for about one live creative per $1,000 a week. At $50K a week, that's about 50 creatives running in the account. At $250K a week, around 200 or more. That's the total running, not new launches, and it's a ballpark, not a target.
  2. Count unique concepts, not ads. Five ads using the same video are one creative. What matters is how many genuinely different images and videos Meta can choose from. See what creative diversity means on Meta.
  3. Expect 15–25 to carry the budget. If fewer than 10 creatives are taking most of your spend, you're exposed to fatigue. Keep testing until more winners emerge.
  4. Then size your new launches. Plan to replace about a quarter of your live creatives every month. With 50 live, that's roughly 12–15 new creatives a month; with 200 live, roughly 50. Most winners fade within a quarter, so launch continuously, not in occasional batches.
  5. Don't cram them into one ad set. More creatives doesn't mean more ads per ad set. We cover that in how many ads to put in each ad set and testing vs. scaling campaigns.

FAQ

How many ads should you run on Facebook and Instagram?

In our data from 17 accounts spending $100K+ a month, the median account had 75 creatives live (getting spend) at once, or about one live creative for every $1,000 of weekly spend. That's the total running in the account, not the number of new ads launched each week. Smaller accounts can run fewer, but they need enough variety for Meta to keep finding new winners.

How many creatives do large Meta advertisers run?

Accounts spending $100K–$250K a month had a median of about 50 creatives live at once. Accounts spending $250K–$1M had about 80. The two accounts spending over $1M a month had roughly 200 and 750. These are totals running in the account, including older ads, not new launches.

How much should you spend per creative on Meta?

The median account spent about $1,100 per live creative per week, with the middle half between $550 and $2,000. Spend is never spread evenly, though: a small number of winners take most of the budget.

How many ads actually get most of the spend?

Around 17. Over three months, the median account had 17 creatives that each took at least 1% of spend, and every account had between 7 and 25.

How many new ads should you launch each month on Meta?

About a quarter of the creatives that spent during a month had stopped spending by the final week, and most winners faded within a quarter. So plan to replace roughly a quarter of your live creatives each month: about 12–15 new creatives a month for an account with 50 live, and more if you're growing. At this spend level, new creatives should be launching every week.
